Powerful Practices

Today I attended and presented at Propel's Powerful Practices Technology Conference at the Propel Montour school in Pittsburgh. Discovery Star and fellow Leadership Council Blog team member Joe Oliphant organized this event... and I must say, he did a remarkable job! The turnout was fabulous, with many eager teachers ready to pounce on new resources and tools for the upcoming school year. I presented two sessions, one on Glogster, and the other on Web2.0 tools in the classroom. It's always refreshing to see educators who are anxious to enhance their students learning using technology!
We were very fortunate to have Geekybird (Matt Monjan) from Discovery Education leave his nest and share not one... but two awesome Discovery Education presentations with us! Visit the Bird House to view his presentations!

SMART Technologies was also on hand to show us many of their awesome tools and products. I just love the hands-on interaction these products provide. In my classroom, I have the SMART Airliner. The Airliner is a wireless slate that allows the student to interact with lessons that I have projected on the whiteboard. It's a great tool to build fine-motor skills and also enables me to move about the room during instruction.
However... I've been wanting a Smartboard in my classroom... and thanks to SMART Technologies... I will have one this year! I'm super excited to use it with my students. It will be a great way to further enhance my instruction!
